Makes 4 Servings

  • 1 lb lean ground beef

  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs

  • 4 slices deli turkey

  • 8 slices cooked bacon

  • 4 slices tomato

  • 4 hamburger buns

Mornay Sauce

1 Tbsp unsalted butter

1 Tbsp all-purpose flour

1 cup milk

Pinch of freshly ground pepper

Freshly grated nutmeg, to taste

1/2 cup coarsly grated Gruyère cheese

1. Combine ground beef and bread crumbs. Shape into 4 hamburger patties. Grill burgers over medium heat to internal temperature of 160°F.

2. For the mornay sauce, melt butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in flour, stirring constantly for about 1 minute. (Make sure to not overcook). Add milk, whisking constantly. Bring to a low boil and stir constantly for about 2 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Remove from heat and stir in cheese. Allow to cool slightly.

3. Place patty on bottom bun. Top each patty with mornay sauce, one slice deli sliced turkey, two slices of bacon, and one slice of tomato. Enjoy!

Cook's Tip:

To Grill: Place patties on grid over medium, ash covered coals. Grill, covered 8 to 10 minutes (over medium heat on preheated gas grill, covered, 7 to 9 minutes) until instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into center registers 160°F, turning occasionally.
